Who am I?

A great Colchian queen or an enchanted goddess —
abandoned by Helios on an island of Colchis?

Sometimes I recall Aeëtes’ face and his gaze
when, like children, we would catch dragonflies
in the realm of Helios.
Now only colorful dragonflies dwell on Aiaia.
Don’t ask me what colors they are —
I often call them rainbows.

I give them names and summon nymphs to help me catch them.
The red one amazes me the most with its speed.
It’s always the first,
leading all the others in a whirl of colors.

In winter, they vanish.
I summon them only in dreams.
And they come —
staying until the morning dream fades.
